The Muslim ban and the boy who cried wolf

The media were so desperate to destroy Donald Trump that now nobody will listen to their legitimate criticism of a terrible policy.

So the dreaded Muslim ban is in force. Well, not an actual Muslim ban. In fact a real Muslim ban would at least punish genuine state sponsors of terrorism like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Trump’s Muslim ban amounts to little more than bullying some of the poorest countries in the world for the sake of PR.

Does anyone seriously believe that it is easy for people to get to the United States from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan or Yemen? In practical terms, you would have to either be among the highest of highly skilled workers or handpicked from a refugee camp after some serious vetting.

And even without Trump, things were only about to get tougher for people who wanted to come from these countries to America over alternative destinations like Germany, which are much more welcoming and much easier to get to.

How did the Trump Administration decide that these seven countries were the ones whose citizens should be banned from the US? Because the Obama Administration had already earmarked them for suspension from the visa-waiver programme.

So this is a nasty little stunt which will do nothing to stop terrorism, will break up families and will ruin the lives of law abiding citizens for political point scoring.

But don’t expect it to change anyone’s opinion of President Trump.

The majority in the media are outraged by the Muslim ban, and right to be, but nobody will listen to the media because the media are outraged by everything Trump does.

They made out that Trump’s private ‘grab em by the pussy’ remarks from ten years ago, which he did apologise for, were the worst thing that anyone had ever said in the history of humanity and should certainly disqualify him from the presidency. But on November 8, the American people sent a clear message to the media to stop being such, errr… pussies.

So the New York Timess, Washington Posts, BBCs and CNNs of this world blew one tape out of proportion. But following the election, surely it was time to start again and look at the new president with an open mind in order to gain the best possible access to the Trump White House, and the real news.

But instead these stuck up New Yorkers and Californians acted like Trump only won because Russia hacked Hillary Clinton’s emails. In a clear campaign to delegitimise the elected president, all four of the organisations listed above followed Buzzfeed in publishing unverified fake news about Trump being blackmailed by the Russians with a sex tape.

Then they tried to make out the anti-Trump Women’s March at his inauguration was something heroic, when it was really just a load of people with no demands, some of whom resorted to violence, who wanted to shout at the bogeyman to make themselves feel better.

Actually no, the real demands of the Women’s March were that Trump step down and ignore all his responsibilities to the constitution and the people who elected him. But the protesters didn’t have the guts to say that because they knew it was impossible to justify.

How could the media not realise how insulting their pathetic excuse for reporting was to the hopes and aspirations of Americans who voted for Trump?

They wanted everyone to seriously believe Trump’s victory had nothing to do with the hapless Hillary Clinton campaigning in the wrong states, but was rather just a result of 60 million people being too stupid to realise they’d voted for Putin’s puppet. i.e. The explanation the Clinton-supporting media wanted to believe, not the one based in fact.

The point of no return has now been crossed. As Trump’s Chief Advisor Steve Bannon said, the media have turned themselves into the opposition party. They have discredited themselves and everything they say will now go in one ear and out the other. If you like Trump, you will keep liking him. If you dislike him, you will never like him.

That is not healthy, because it means President Trump has carte blanche to do whatever he wants, or ban as many Muslims as he likes, knowing his support will stay at exactly the same level.

So please New York Times, Washington Post and friends. Start doing your job properly, and reporting objectively, and stop believing that if you complain enough, Trump will leave the White House for a quiet life.

Keep screaming like spoilt teenagers and you will just make the next four years even more miserable for Mexicans, Muslims and everyone else you pretend to care about.
